ELECTROPOSITIVITY

Is a measure of an element's ability to donate electrons, and therefore form positive ions; thus, it is opposed to electronegativity.

Mainly, this is an attribute of metals, meaning that, in general, the greater the metallic character of an element the greater the electropositivity.

ELECTRONEGATIVITY

Is a measure of the tendency of an atom to attract a bonding pair of electrons. The Pauling scale is the most commonly used.

Fluorine (the mostelectronegative element) is assigned a value of 4.0, and values range down to caesium and francium which are the least electronegativeat 0.7.
